Lot 35		Ancient Rome. Lot of Silver and Bronze Coins, c. 105 BC. - 250 AD., of Various Denominations. Ideal for young collectors or E-bay vendors. A varied assortment, including two Republican denarii: L. Thorius Balbus (c. 105 BC.) and L. Scribonius Libo(c. 62 BC.). For the rest, there are examples of Augustus, Drusus, Nero, Vespasian, Domitian (denarius and sestertius), Trajan, Hadrian, Marcus Aurelius, Commodus, Julia Domna, an abundance of Caracalla, Gordian III, and Philip I. Additionally are found Geta, Severus Alexander, Maximus I, Julia Maemea, Trajan Decius, Volusian, and more. At least 20 of the coins are silver, Denarii or Antoniniani. Nearly half are attributed, the rest, largely Greek Imperial remain to be done. Many of the coins are very presentable, with Scribonius Libo denarius handsome and choice. Lot of at least 135 coins. Lot 36		Ancient Rome. Lot of Four Ancient Silver Coins. Roman, and Earlier, c. 475 BC. - 217 AD. Included are three Denarii. Vespasian, 69-79 AD: Sow left, with piglets (RIC 109). Caracalla, 198-217 AD.: Venus left, captives at feet (RIC 312d). Plautilla, wife of Caracalla: Venus left, Cupid at feet (RIC 369). Plus a Persian Siglos, c. 485-470 BC (Carradice IIIb). Siglos nicely centered on compact roundish flan. Coins with differing tones and patinas, with Caracalla the best preserved, well struck and still lustrous. Lot of 4. Lot 37		Ancient Rome. Lot of Three Bronze Coins, c. 140-222 AD. Pius scarce. Earliest, a Dupondius of Antoninus Pius, with Aurelius as Caesar, c. 140-144 AD.: Radiate head of Pius right / Bare-headed, draped bust of Aurelius right (RIC 1221a). Also two provincial AE 26's from Markianopolis. Macrinus and Diadumenium, confronted cuirassed busts / Nemesis left, wheel at feet (BMC p. 32, 33 var.). Also, Elagabalus and Julia Maesa, confronted busts / Concordia left, with patera and cornucopia (BMC p. 96, 62). Pius with dark orichalcum patina and fine portraits. Fields smoothed, deeply so in spots on reverse. Macrinus with nice portraits and pleasing green patina. Last with choice dark emerald green patina on obverse, dark green on back. Lot 38		Ancient Rome. Large Lot of Late Empire Coins, c. 260-363 AD. Mostly AE's. Ideal for young collectors or E-bay vendors. An encyclopedic run of Rome's more commonly seen emperors. Starting with Valerian and his family, including Gallienus, Salonina, and Valerian II (consecration issue), plus Claudius II, Aurelian, Severina, Quintillus, Vabalathus, Tacitus, Probus, Numerian, Carinus, along with Diocletian and the assorted Tetrarchs, plus the house of Constantine up to Julian the apostate. Worth a good look, as most pieces have been cleaned and are presentable -- a number even with some eye appeal. One or two silvers, plus a few colonials at the beginning of the run. Included is a little red box, unexamined, with many AE 4's, perhaps some chance treasures within. All are identified, some attributed. Lot of around 200 coins, plus or minus. Lot 39		Ancient Rome. Large Lot of Late Empire and Byzantine Coins, c. 364-1150 AD. Various Denomination AE's. Ideal for young collectors or E-bay vendors. A continuation of the previous collection. Starting with Valentinian I, and including most of the significant rulers up to at least 1143 AD. Worth a good look, as most pieces have been cleaned and are presentable -- a number with some eye appeal, including a couple of decent anonymous 11th century folles bearing a portrait of Christ. There are a handful of untattributed scyphate bronzes, otherwise all are identified. Some interesting-looking material, perhaps a rarity can be chanced upon. Lot of at least 175 coins.
